5 Easy Ways to Make Every Meal a Special Event
...and weight loss easier!

make every meal a special event, weight loss diet

Many things in weight loss can be very simple, and very easy. One of those is to make every meal a special event! When you appreciate how special it is to nourish ourselves with high quality, healthy food, you'll feel justified in making your mealtimes a special event.

It is well-documented that when we eat mindlessly, such as in front of the TV, standing up, or while driving or working, we consume more calories than we need, and we eat the wrong foods. This leads to rapid weight gain.

How do I make every meal a special event?

Here are some tips:

1. Get that fancy china out!
We tend to keep "nice" things for holidays, and maybe birthdays and anniversaries. How do you feel when you use your fancy china and tableware on those occasions? I know that I feel special, my food tastes special, and I feel proud of how nice my table looks.

This is how you should feel at EVERY meal! Eating is a sacred event, no matter if it's a typical Wednesday night, or Thanksgiving.

2. Put on nice, relaxing music.
It's well-documented that when we eat while feeling stressed we don't digest our food well. This undigested food can be stored as extra fat, and we certainly don't want that.

It only takes a few seconds to turn on whatever music makes you relax, and that makes the meal feel like a special event.

3. Keep flowers on your table.
I know what you're thinking: who has the time (or the finances) to keep fresh flowers around? I agree. But if it's spring or summertime, you can find beautiful FREE flowers everywhere (just don't steal them from your neighbor's garden!) And during other times of the year, use dried or silk flowers. You can get these very inexpensively in lots of stores, even WalMart.

4. Really focus on your meal.
I'm a classic multitasker. I always try to do more than one thing, especially while I'm eating. This just contributes to overeating, and poor digestion.

Many people think that the "French paradox" (that is, why the French are so thin, yet they consume very high-fat, high-alcohol diets) is because of the red wine. I think, and I've found articles by several researchers who agree, that it's because they really enjoy every meal. They truly focus on the meal. They talk with friends and family, and take a good amount of time for each meal--it's never rushed. I think we can learn a lot from them.

5. Light up those candles
I used to have tons of candles around the house that I was saving for a "special occasion". Well, there's no time like the present! USE THEM! It can make any meal feel extra special. Try to use nonscented candles on your table, though, as scents may interfere with your tastebuds.

So there you go...5 easy steps to make every meal a special event. You'll enjoy every bite, you'll eat less, and weight loss will be much easier!
